About Dummy Files

The browser-first dummy files generator built to simplify development, QA automation, file upload stress testing, and system validation.

Our Mission: Zero Friction Test Data

When building software, testing file uploads, or configuring cloud storage pipelines, developers and QA professionals constantly need dummy files of exact sizes and specific file formats. Historically, this meant hunting through untrusted sample file websites, using sluggish command-line tools, or downloading arbitrary files from the internet.

DummyFiles.com was created to eliminate this friction. We provide a single, universal generator where any engineer or tester can produce dummy files of the type and size they need in seconds—with custom exact sizes up to 1 GB depending on the format, completely free, with no signup, and with zero ads interrupting your workflow.

100% Client-Side Privacy & Architecture

Unlike traditional file generator websites that create files on a remote backend and stream them over the internet, Dummy Files operates 100% in your browser. Using HTML5 Canvas, TypedArrays and Blobs, with the JSZip and pdf-lib libraries for ZIP-based documents and PDFs, every byte of your dummy test file is built locally on your device.

  • Zero Server Uploads: No files are uploaded to our servers or third-party cloud infrastructure.
  • No Waiting on a Server: Files are built on your device, so there is no upload or server download step.
  • Your Files Stay Local: The generated file and the file name you type are never sent to us. We use Google Analytics for anonymous usage events, such as the format and size you pick; see the privacy policy.

Dummy Files supports 62 real-world file extensions across 7 categories:

Data & Structured Text

CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, Markdown (.md), TSV, SQL dumps, and server logs (.log).

Images & Graphics

Developer & System

How We Check the Files

An automated script generates files at several sizes and tests them with independent tools such as 7-Zip, unzip, GNU tar and pdf-lib. Not every format is covered, and the files are built for testing size and type handling, not to replace real documents. The How It Works page lists what each file contains, which formats were checked, which were not, and the date of the last run.
