Testing with a 1 KB CSV file

A 1 KB CSV with the default 5 rows and 10 columns is a header line, five records and a little filler (that layout needs at least 565 bytes). It suits smoke tests, tiny-file handling and checking that a header row maps to the right columns.

Every data row is complete: the tool never cuts a row to reach 1,024 bytes, so the extra bytes become filler text inside the last column instead.

Ids count up from 1, so a unique constraint on the id column holds. Change the Number of rows and Number of columns options to try other shapes at this same size.

1 KB CSV file FAQ

Is the 1 KB CSV file exactly 1 KB?

Yes: 1,024 bytes in binary units. For a decimal 1 KB, set the unit to B and enter 1,000.

How many rows are in a 1 KB dummy CSV?

5 data rows plus the header by default, because you choose the rows in Options and the size does not change the count. At 10 columns a 1 KB file can hold up to 9 rows, and the Number of rows option stops at 1,000,000. The file stays exactly 1,024 bytes, with the extra bytes as filler in the last column.

Will a 1 KB dummy CSV open in Excel without losing rows?

Yes, as far as the row limit goes. The file has the rows you choose, at most 1,000,000 plus the header, which is under Excel's 1,048,576-row worksheet limit, so no rows fall past it. No row is cut to reach 1,024 bytes.

Will a 1 KB CSV file pass the nginx client_max_body_size (default)?

Yes, as a raw binary upload: it is 1,047,552 bytes under the 1 MB limit (1,048,576 bytes), which leaves room for the few hundred bytes of multipart headers. As base64 it is 1,368 characters, under the limit, and that is the size that counts in a JSON body or an email.

Is the file uploaded anywhere?

No. It is generated in your browser and never leaves your device.
