Testing with a 100 KB CSV file

A 100 KB CSV is a typical size for a manual bulk import from a spreadsheet export. With the default 5 rows the extra bytes become long filler text in the last column; set the Number of rows option to about 1,000 for a file that looks like a real export.

It is under PHP’s default 2 MB upload_max_filesize and nginx’s 1 MB body limit, so it should pass on an untouched server. Use it as the baseline before trying larger files.

Set Rows to 1,000 and check how many inserts your importer runs: that is enough to see whether it writes rows in batches or one by one. Because the ids are unique, a de-duplication step on the id column should keep every row.

100 KB CSV file FAQ

Is the 100 KB CSV file exactly 100 KB?

Yes: 102,400 bytes in binary units. For a decimal 100 KB, set the unit to B and enter 100,000.

How many rows are in a 100 KB dummy CSV?

5 data rows plus the header by default, because you choose the rows in Options and the size does not change the count. At 10 columns a 100 KB file can hold up to 1,010 rows, and the Number of rows option stops at 1,000,000. The file stays exactly 102,400 bytes, with the extra bytes as filler in the last column.

Will a 100 KB dummy CSV open in Excel without losing rows?

Yes, as far as the row limit goes. The file has the rows you choose, at most 1,000,000 plus the header, which is under Excel's 1,048,576-row worksheet limit, so no rows fall past it. No row is cut to reach 102,400 bytes.

Will a 100 KB CSV file pass the nginx client_max_body_size (default)?

Yes, as a raw binary upload: it is 946,176 bytes under the 1 MB limit (1,048,576 bytes), which leaves room for the few hundred bytes of multipart headers. As base64 it is 136,536 characters, under the limit, and that is the size that counts in a JSON body or an email.

Is the file uploaded anywhere?

No. It is generated in your browser and never leaves your device.
