Testing with a 100 KB PDF file

At 100 KB a default 10-page PDF is about 23 KB of document plus roughly 77 KB of padding after the final %%EOF marker. It is small enough for instant previews and thumbnails and sits below every limit in the table, so use it as the control file that must always pass.

If a 100 KB PDF fails to upload while a bigger one works elsewhere, the problem is not size: check file type validation, filename handling or authentication.

The page count does not depend on the size: each page takes about 2 KB, so raising the Number of pages option shrinks the padding. Compare a 10-page and a 20-page file at this same size: work that depends on pages (thumbnails, page counters, text extraction) should change, while work that depends on bytes (upload time, scanning) should not.

A 100 KB file is under nginx (1 MB), PHP (2 MB), AWS Lambda (6 MB), API Gateway (10 MB), Outlook with Exchange (10 MB), Outlook with internet accounts (20 MB), Gmail (25 MB) and Cloudflare Free and Pro (100 MB). Sent as base64 text it stays on the same side of every limit.

100 KB PDF file FAQ

Is the 100 KB PDF file exactly 100 KB?

Yes: 102,400 bytes in binary units. For a decimal 100 KB, set the unit to B and enter 100,000.

How many pages does a 100 KB dummy PDF have?

10 pages of A4 text by default. The page count is an option and does not depend on the file size: choose 1 to 200 pages in Options and the file stays exactly 102,400 bytes. If the pages need more than 100 KB, the tool says the minimum size they need.

Is a 100 KB dummy PDF mostly filler?

With the default 10 pages, yes. The document is about 23 KB, so most of the 102,400 bytes is a PDF comment after the final %%EOF marker, outside the document structure. More pages mean less filler.

Will a 100 KB PDF file pass the nginx client_max_body_size (default)?

Yes, as a raw binary upload: it is 946,176 bytes under the 1 MB limit (1,048,576 bytes), which leaves room for the few hundred bytes of multipart headers. As base64 it is 136,536 characters, under the limit, and that is the size that counts in a JSON body or an email.

Is the file uploaded anywhere?

No. It is generated in your browser and never leaves your device.
